Orthodontic Care for your childs

Early Interceptive Treatment for Children

It you feel that your child has dental problems that need to be looked at by an orthodontist, our experienced dentists and orthodontists at Dr. James E. Johnson DDS, & Associates P.C can help you.

For example, noticeable problems for chewing, biting or speech difficulties, finger or pacifier sucking habits that continue after six years of age, protruding front teeth, tooth spacing or crowding problems, baby teeth falling out too early, chronic mouth breathing, jaw joints that click or are painful, misplaced or extra teeth etc.

Not all noticeable problems require early intervention. Many can resolve naturally or can wait until most of the permanent teeth have erupted. Your orthodontist can determine which problems require immediate attention, which would be better treated at a later date, and which can be left to resolve on its own.

The experienced dentists and orthodontists at Dr. James E. Johnson DDS, & Associates P.C can examine your child and advice you if your child needs any early interceptive treatments. Please give us a call at (202) 783-3368 to schedule an appointment with our Orthodontist.

Mouth guards for Children

Mouth guards are generally recommended for adults suffering from Bruxism (teeth grinding). They help reduce teeth attrition and loss of teeth enamel that can result from Bruxism.

Early Interceptive Treatment
Children can also suffer from Bruxism. Generally, it is advisable to wait until the child’s permanent teeth are in place and any orthodontic treatment is completed. However this has to be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The experienced dentists and orthodontists at Dr. James E. Johnson DDS, & Associates P.C can examine your child and advice you whether or not your child needs treatment for Bruxism. Please give us a call at (202) 783-3368 to schedule an appointment with our Orthodontist.

Types of Mouth guards

There are several types of mouth guards that can be used. The following are two of the most common types:
mouth guards

Pre-made mouth guards: These can be found in most sport stores. There come in various types and brands. Choose the one that fits best and is most comfortable.

Custom-made mouth guards: We can make mouth guards specifically for your adolescent. These are more expensive compared to the pre-made mouth guards, but are usually more comfortable.
